September is Alopecia Areata Awareness Month! Alopecia Areata Awareness Month is a month-long celebration and recognition of all those affected by alopecia areata. During September, the NAAF community works to increase awareness, reduce stigma and empower those living with alopecia areata locally and nationally.
Alopecia Areata is an autoimmune condition which causes hair loss, usually in clumps or patches, characterized by bald spots in various areas of the body.

Androgenetic alopecia is also known as male or female pattern hair loss. It can be atributed to genetics and a family history of hair loss.
Traction alopecia is caused by putting constant stress on the hair through repeated pulling or stretching. Tight braiding or pony tails may cause this condition.
Alpoecia totalis is as an autoimmune condition that causes you to lose all of the hair on your scalp.
Cicatricial alopecia or “scarring alopecia” is a condition in which inflammation destroys the hair follicles causing permanent hair loss.
