Hair Loss…Myth vs Truth – 06/10/2022

Myth  – only older men suffer from hair loss

Truth – men can begin to lose hair anytime after puberty and 40% of women will suffer from hair loss at some point in their lifetime

Myth – hair loss comes from the mother’s side of the family

Truth – genetic hair loss may come from either side of the family

Myth – wearing a hat will make you go bald

Truth – hats will not contribute to hair loss. Genetics, stress, and medication are the most common causes

Myth – washing your hair too frequently will cause you to lose your hair

Truth – using harsh over-the-counter products may cause damage to hair but a gentle sulfate-free shampoo is safe for daily use and will not cause baldness. You wash your body daily… why not your scalp?

Myth – too much sun exposure will make you lose your hair

Truth – although you should always use some level of SPF when in the sun, the sun itself will not cause you to lose your hair. It may certainly cause dry and brittle hair, but not hair loss

Myth – there is nothing you can do to stop hair loss

Truth – there are many effective ways to slow down and sometimes reverse hair loss. If you ignore your hair loss… it will certainly progress. Best to catch it early

Bottom line – see a hair loss professional as soon as you notice any changes in your hair.
